Manchester City Council is currently considering a planning application for a 38-storey student accommodation tower on the Charles Street car park (SISTER Plot H), directly behind the railway viaduct and only around 50 metres from Granby Village. The proposal includes accommodation for 1,041 students across three linked buildings, with the tallest tower reaching almost 149 metres.

This is one of the most significant planning applications ever to affect our community.

If approved, many residents believe it will permanently change the character of our neighbourhood through increased overshadowing, loss of daylight, an overbearing building immediately opposite our homes, and further intensification of student accommodation in an area that already has a significant student population. The accompanying guidance document explains many of these concerns in detail, including the potential impacts on homes, communal gardens, Sackville Gardens, Vimto Park, heritage buildings and the wider Granby Village community.

This is your opportunity to be heard

The Council has not yet made a decision. Planning officers and councillors must consider objections that raise relevant planning issues. Every individual objection is recorded, and a large number of well-reasoned responses can make a real difference when an application is determined.
