Read about Granby Villages next phase of infrastructure upgrades.

We would like to let you know about a number of planned infrastructure upgrades across Granby Village.

These improvements are designed to enhance security, reliability, and ease of access across the site. Some works may affect your apartment intercom unit or the way you access shared areas.

The works will start on the Car Park upgrades the beginning of February in the following phases:

  1. Car Park Works

  2. Bombay House Intercom Upgrade

  3. Velvet Court Intercom Upgrades

  4. Venice Court Intercom Upgrades

  5. Velvet House Intercom Upgrades

  6. External Gates added to system

Intercom Upgrade Across Granby Village

Over the past year, new intercom systems have been successfully installed at 55–57 Whitworth Street, the Leisure Centre, the car park entrance, and the gates around Venice Court. The system is now used by over 400 residents and has proven reliable and well received.

The intercom upgrade will now be extended to the remaining apartment blocks:

  • Velvet Court

  • Venice Court

  • Velvet House

  • Bombay House

This upgrade will include:

  • All external entrance doors

  • Ground-floor lobby internal doors

  • Post rooms

Once complete, all blocks will operate on a single, modern intercom platform.

Optional In-Apartment Intercom Viewer (Owners Only)

Apartment owners may optionally replace their existing in-apartment intercom viewer with a new, smaller touchscreen unit. The cost is £250 per viewer, including installation.

The new viewer allows:

  • Door and gate calls to ring on both the touchscreen unit and a smartphone simultaneously

  • Remote access to be granted when away from home

Existing in-apartment intercom units are not compatible with the new system. Residents who do not install a new viewer will still be able to use the intercom via the smartphone app.

Important information:

  • Some apartments have two intercom viewers; the cost applies per viewer

  • Installers will make good any small holes left by removing older units, though some local repainting may be required

  • In a small number of apartments where cabling has been previously altered, an additional charge may apply (most apartments will not be affected)

Granby Village will fund all cabling up to each apartment front door. Installation of an in-apartment intercom viewer is optional and payable by the apartment owner only.

Owners will be asked via the survey to confirm whether they wish to proceed with an in-apartment viewer, this will be sent to all apartment owners.

Courtyard Gate Intercom Access

(Velvet Court / 55–57 / Venice Court)

Due to ongoing issues with anti-social behaviour, several access changes are being made to improve security and manage movement across the site.

The following works are planned:

  • The Velvet Court and Venice Court courtyard gates will be connected to the intercom system

  • The existing Venice Court gate onto Venice Street will be permanently opened

  • The car park gate in front of Velvet Court will be permanently opened

New gates will be fitted with near-silent electric motors, with noise reduction prioritised. Intercom call volumes will be set to the lowest practical level.

These changes are intended to:

  • Reduce rough sleeping around Velvet Court

  • Improve 24-hour pedestrian movement between Velvet Court and Granby Row

  • Reduce noise from the existing mechanical car park gate

Car Park Access, Pedestrian Route & CCTV Improvements

Unauthorised access to the car park remains a key security concern, particularly through tailgating behind vehicles. Incorrect parking is also an ongoing issue.

To address this, access will move from key fobs to Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR):

  • Vehicle gates will open automatically for registered number plates

  • Residents will be asked to register vehicle details

  • A three-month transition period will allow key fobs and ANPR to operate together before fobs are deactivated

Parking space rentals

  • Long-term car park rentals (over three months) will be supported, but an individual account will need to be setup for anyone you rent a space to.

  • Renters will have car park-only access

  • This enables clearer accountability and improved security control for car park space renters

Additional access options

  • Remote gate opening via the mobile app

  • Facial recognition at the intercom adjacent to the vehicle gate

  • Concierge access and remote opening via intercoms on both sides of the gate

New Pedestrian Access

We have observed frequent pedestrian use of the vehicle gate, often due to a lack of awareness of access codes or the absence of a dedicated pedestrian route onto Granby Row.

To improve safety and flow:

  • The existing fire exit next to the car park gate will be activated as a pedestrian entrance and exit

  • Pedestrian use of the vehicle gate will be discouraged and monitored

CCTV Enhancements

To support these changes:

  • Five new 4K CCTV cameras will be installed at the car park entrance

  • Vehicle entries, exits, and access events will be logged

  • This will improve monitoring, enforcement, and overall site security

Further updates, including installation timelines, will be shared in due course.

Kind regards,

Granby Village Management Company
